- The specialists
Neurosurgery is that branch of medicine that deals with problems related to diseases of the brain, spinal cord, nerves and spine: despite having very ancient origins, it is the North American surgeon Harvey Williams Cushing (Cleveland, April 8, 1869 – New Haven, October 7, 1939) who is considered the father of modern neurosurgery.
Neurosurgery deals with the disease-related problems of:
Cervello
Spinal cord vs. spines
Nerves

5) What are the works of the Order?
The development of neurosurgical discipline
The neurosurgical discipline has had a rapid progression in the last century, with the aging of the population and the development of technology applied to surgery, neurosurgical interventions have improved and increased their possibilities so as to require the definition of sub-specialties such as the management of spine problems, the management of vascular diseases, neuro-oncology, cranial base surgery, functional neurosurgery, pediatric neurosurgery, peripheral nerve neurosurgery and neuro-traumatology.
Many people still think of neurosurgery as brain surgery but it is not, it is also a medical specialty that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of patients with injuries or diseases or disorders of the brain, spinal cord, spine and peripheral nerves in all parts of the body.
The nature of the issue
Depending on the nature of the issue, the surgeon may provide surgical or non-surgical care. The training of the neurosurgeon therefore allows cooperation with colleagues who deal with neurological diseases, emergency room doctors, internists, family doctors who deal with rehabilitation, and all the health figures who take part in the care of these patients.
The team of the Neurosurgery unit of the Piacenza Nursing Home is committed every day to improving the quality of life and health of patients suffering from spinal and cranial diseases, continuously searching for new methodologies, innovative techniques that guarantee a very high level of quality of care.
A doctor is obliged to look beyond a diseased organ, beyond the whole man – he must see the man in his world.”
cit. Harvey Williams Cushing
PHYSICIAN UNION - PATIENT
The perception of the symptom and the learning of one's own state of health.
When is the doctor-patient union created?
The patient almost always begins a diagnostic process because he complains of a symptom, it is our duty to start from the discomfort reported by the patient and look first of all for the cause; sometimes it is not so simple because each of us perceives the discomfort subjectively or because the interpretation is not so immediate; but certainly it cannot only be covered by the use of drugs or trivialized by the application of a protocol. The understanding of the disease and the treatment must be a careful moment of learning about one’s state of health, only in this way can a doctor-patient alliance be reached that can guarantee the best possible healing path.
